A strong industry. During this social dialogue meeting, the union and the employers’ organization rejoiced that the industry was back at the top of the European agenda. In a first statement entitled “Competitiveness and Employment in a Globalized Economy,” they jointly defend a strong industry placed at the heart of the Europe 2020 Strategy, for which the Twenty-Seven laid out new objectives in terms of growth and job creation. The CEEMET and EMF recognize that this double objective also applies to their sector: “economic and industrial policy in Europe must be geared towards sustainable economic growth, innovation, and energy‐ and resource efficient production” reads the statement. The social partners add, “Policies must be coherent and promote an overall environment that ensures a competitive manufacturing sector able to deliver high quality and sustainable employment.”
