EU: Parliament adopts amendments to the draft regulation on the protection of personal data

While this topic is still subject to vivid debates, the MEPs adopted – today, March 12, their first reading report on the draft regulation concerning the protection of people regarding the treatment and circulation of personal data.  The goal is to send a clear political signal to the Council of Ministers, which is stuck on the subject.  Debates around the general regulation on the protection of data, supposed to replace Directive 95/46 that supervises all rules pertaining to the protection of personal data in Europe, are much less advanced in the Council.  In the draft regulation adopted by the Parliament, which will be discussed with the Ministers, Article 82, dedicated to the protection of data within the framework of an employment relationship, is more substantial than in the initial version.
