EU: the 14th Congress of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) debates the possibility of a framework directive on a minimum wage and promoting collective bargaining.

Day two of the 14th Congress of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) taking place place from Tuesday 21 to Friday 24 May 2019 at Wien Messe in Vienna, Austria, has seen the 600 delegates attending from across Europe debate the topic of collective bargaining as part of the confederation’s next four-year work program. The section on collective bargaining calls on the ETUC to encourage the EC institutions towards formulating a European recommendation , or a framework directive, on upward salary convergence and on collective bargaining. During the morning session Nobel economist, Joseph Stiglitz stressed the importance of regulations that promote unionization and collective bargaining in order to ensure better wealth division and better functioning market.
