EU: the European Commission is preparing a “social package” for June 25

The college of Commissioners decided, during a seminar on April 29, 2008, dedicated to the preparation of the European social agenda, to present with this programmatic document a "social package" containing several initiatives involving the Commissioners in charge of social issues. During a conference dedicated to the Social Agenda, the president of the Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, and the Commissioner in charge of Employment and Social Affairs, Vladimir Spidla, gave a few clarifications. On June 25, the Commission was going to present its communication on the European Social Agenda, which will list the policy to follow regarding social issues in the European Union for the next five years. The French presidency of the EU will have to impel this document which will have to be adopted by the end of the year. The presentation of the Social Agenda was supposed to be coupled with other social initiatives, the content of which is still quite blurry, but Mr. Barroso and Mr. Spidla ment
