EU: the tripartite social summit focuses on flexicurity

During the informal tripartite social summit which took place on Friday, October 20th in Lahti (Finland), the European Commission, the Finnish Presidency of the EU and the representatives of Member States invited trade unions and employers' organizations to actively take part in the debate on flexicurity. The 2006 spring Council had already invited the Commission, Member States and the social partners to think of new means to reinforce flexicurity, a concept which combines flexibility for employers and professional security for workers.
