EU: upcoming adoption of draft regulations on personal data protection

In the evening of 15 December, agreement was found between the representatives of the European Parliament, the Council of Ministers, and the European Commission over draft regulations on personal data protection. The compromise text will be submitted for final adoption by both the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers during their plenary sessions in the first quarter of 2016. Member States will have two years to align their own legislation with these regulations that will impact the HR arena.

The draft regulations pursue the twofold objective of protecting European citizens from US internet platforms as well as laying down harmonized rules on the treatment of personal data right across the EU.
