EU: young workers face many health problems and work injuries due to job insecurity

Throughout Europe, a high number of 15-24 year-olds have trouble to enter the labor market. When they do enter, they often get a deskilled and contingent job, and are confronted to more hazards than the average worker. Their life outside work is deeply affected by this situation. (Ref. 061105)

According to a study conducted by Laurent Vogel at the ETUI-REHS (Reseach institut within the European Trade Union Confederation), young workers are more than averagely at risk of work injuries. The research shows that young workers tend to aggregate factors of endangerment: insecure jobs meaning high turnover, part-time employment, deskilling, and stress due to fear of being sacked.
