September 15th, Belgium. All Belgian unions will march for pensions on September 15th. Talks on the pension reform started in early 2010 and were paused when the government collapsed after the general election in June. The key measure to pay for pension is to work longer. On Wednesday, unions will protest against the increase in retirement and early retirement age. They will demand that minimum pension amounts to at least €1,150 after tax, instead of €1,004 currently, and a minimum replacement rate equal to that of other European countries, namely 75% of average annual pay, as opposed to 60% currently. The demonstration will also aim to increase the limit for the calculation of employees’ pensions to the same level as self-employed workers, and to recalculate old pensions.
