A law passed by the Finnish parliament on 8 May places a 24-hour limit on political and solidarity strikes, such as those aimed at opposing a government decision or in support of a cause. It also increases fines for "breaches of the obligation to maintain social peace". The law will come into force at the beginning of July.
The government bill on restricting the right to strike was adopted in plenary session on 8 May (107 votes to 57).
