Finland: public authorities accompany restructuring at PERLOS

Due to trading losses, the manufacturer of mobile telephone hulls PERLOS has started a "program to improve earnings" which includes the end of manufacturing in Finland. The operation will affect 1400 people in the country. PERLOS will also reduce its manpower in the world (in particular in China, India, Hungary, Sweden, Mexico and Brazil) with 4000 job cuts out of 13000. (Ref. 070060)

The Finnish government has set up a crisis cell, inspired of the “working group on structural changes” which has existed in Finland for a few years and which was effective in 2006 during the closing-down of an important paper factory (UPM Voikkaa).
