As expected, the second Social Conference, organized in Paris on June 20-21, was mostly a ‘warm-up lap’ for the government and the social partners before a series of negotiations on thorny issues – e.g. pensions or the reform of vocational training. Considerably controlled by the employment issue – and François Hollande’s reaffirmed will to bend the unemployment curve by the end of the year –, the meetings were mostly an opportunity to determine the social agenda for the months to come.
