On 07 October the CGT trade union within the Caisse d’Epargne d’Île-de-France (CEIDF) announced that it had summoned the savings bank in order to urge it to undertake structural measures that will put an end to what it calls ‘systemic discrimination against women’ in terms of hiring, compensation, career promotion, training, part-time work, professional classification, and working conditions. In 2019 and in accordance with legal requirements, the trade union lodged a formal notice with the employer, which normally should lead to discussions over measures to end the alleged discrimination. The trade union then opted to pursue a legal route, on the grounds of the bank’s refusal to enter into discussions. CEIDF management explained to the press that it expected the legal action would enable it to demonstrate the bank’s commitment to professional equality and ‘to put an end to the CGT’s politically motivated, misleading, and defamatory communication campaign.’
