On Thursday 28 April, more than 170,000 demonstrated against the draft labor law reform that is set for debate next week in the National Assembly. Seven unions calling for the text to be withdrawn (CGT, FO, FSU, Solidaires and Unef, UNL and Fidl for students) called for this fourth day of action that however resulted in fewer demonstrators than previously. The government has ruled out withdrawing the text but is expected to relax several measures to secure its passage by the Socialist majority. The parliamentary debate is set to start on 03 May.
Fewer numbers mobilizing. On 28 April between 170,00 (according to the authorities) and 500,000 (according to the CGT) turned out onto the streets of the country’s major towns and cities demanding that the draft labor law reform, named the ‘El Khomri law’ after the current Labor Minister, be withdrawn.
