France: railway company SNCF ordered to pay damages to its EWC for information and consultation failings

In May 2017, France’s state-owned rail company SNCF initiated a move to sell its holding in STVA, a subsidiary in the group’s logistics branch dealing with transport and storage of completed vehicles. STVA has 2,150 employees spread across 31 sites in eight European countries. The decision was finalised in the final quarter of 2016 and the matter was on the agenda of its European Works Council in June of the following year, in other words following the sale. The EWC took the matter to court.
