On 17 July the Nanterre High Court (Tribunal de Grande Instance) ruled that the two union bodies in question could not take action, (rather than the EWC), with respect to information procedures when the EWC itself has not called the said arrangements into question. The judge confirmed the approach that prevails for the French WC in affirming this body’s sole authority to assess the quality of the information procedure.
In their action, the French trade union FNIC-CGT together with the British trade union Unite asked the judge to order that Total suspend its information and consultation procedure with the national representative bodies concerning the reorganization project at the UK site, LOR, as well as the transformation project at the French site, La Mède, until the EWC consultation procedure was completed and the EWC had rendered its opinion.
