General Motors : management and workers agree on terms for closing of Portugal plant

GM will notably give two months' salary to each worker and for each year worked at Azambuja plant. The plant is due to close on next December 21st. The factory produced the Combo, but this production will be transferred to Zaragoza, Spain in January 2007. (Ref. 061039)

After months of turmoil, GM management and its workers managed to reach an agreement on the planned December closure of the Azambuja assembly plant, located in Portugal. Each worker will receive two months’ salary for each year worked at the plant, plus health insurance for two years and education subsidies for workers’ children.
