The Institute of Economic and Social Research (WSI) of the Hans Böckler union foundation published, on Thursday, January 23, its report on the evolution of convention wages in 2013. Thus, in average, last year, collectively-agreed wage increases amounted to 2.7%. However, the real increase is only 1.2% in average. Nearly 13.1 million employees are concerned. Besides, collective agreements’ validity keeps getting longer.
1.2% real increase. With a 1.5 percent inflation rate in 2013 – lower than previous years (2% in 2012 and 2.3% in 2011) –, the real increase for wages negotiated in collective agreements in 2013 was 1.2% in average, as opposed to 0.7% in 2012. Except for 2011, when conventional wages were 0.3% lower, wages in Germany (conventional and real) continue a rise started in 2008 after a decade of moderation – or even decline.
