The first sectoral tariff agreement of 2014 was signed yesterday in the chemical industry. After 9 regional negotiations and a first bargaining round in mid-January, the social partners agreed on a 3.7 percent wage increase. Employers and employees’ representatives rejoiced with this “strong” agreement.
After bargaining for two days in Hanover on February 4-5, the Chemical Industry Employers’ Association (BVAC) and the chemistry workers’ union (IG BCE) reached a sectoral collective agreement – the first major tariff agreement this year.
The two key points of the agreement are a 3.7 percent wage increase over 14 months and a training chapter titled “Zukunft durch Ausbildung und Berufeinstieg” (“A Future via training and access to employment.”)
