Germany’s 550,000 chemicals employees will receive a 5.3% pay rise paid in two stages comprising first 3% then 2.3%. In exchange for the size of the rise the IG BCE union accepted spreading the increase in wages over twenty–four months. In addition a regional and a business level clause can each delay the implementation of the agreement. The ‘Start’ apprenticeship preparation program will also be formulated and will be augmented with a ‘pre-Start’ program that targets young migrants recently arrived in Germany.
On 23 June the chemicals sector employers’ body BAVC and trade union IG BCE once again secured a consensual sector agreement over wages. The social partners agreed to a two-stage wage raise totaling 5.3% split into a 3% component and a 2.3% component that will apply to 550,000 employees working 1,900 businesses in the sector.
