Germany: a project to support the employment of people over 50 years old

The Ministry of Labour presented a project aimed at facilitating the employment of people over 50 years old. Called "Initiative 50 plus", this program is designed to increase the employment rate of people over 55 years old and, in the medium term, to prepare Germany to the consequences of demographic ageing. Currently, 50 % of companies do not employ any employee older than 50 and 55 % of people over 55 years old do not work. The project is based on two instruments: combined wages and subsidies to incite companies to hire.

  • In the first device, a job applicant who accepts a job less paid than his last job, will be entitled to a premium which compensates for the difference in wages : up to 50 % the first year and 30 % the second year.
