After the blow dealt by the ‘dieselgate’ scandal as well as the movement towards electric cars, the German automobile giant launched an extensive restructuring programme, which aims to reduce staff numbers in Germany by a maximum of 23,000. At the same time, the car giant also needs to find 9,000 new talents for new areas of activity. With this in mind, the company’s leadership and general works council have signed an agreement on the creation of an internal job exchange, open to employees of all the group’s brands. More than 8,000 agreements on early retirement. The manufacturer’s large-scale restructuring plan, which was launched in 2016 and dubbed a ‘pact for the future’ (see article n°9930), seeks to reduce the number of workers in its German factories by 23,000 by 2020 (out of a total of 30,000 job cuts worldwide).
