Germany: Alcatel-Lucent Network Services employees sign company framework agreement with the support of the IG-Metall

High employee mobilization.  The IG-Metall claims that the employees of Alcatel-Lucent Network Services GmbH, in Düsseldorf, were not covered by a collective agreement.  They were paid depending on an internal remuneration system, which employees deemed “insufficient” and, most importantly, “unfair.”  The same work was paid differently depending on the sites and wages were lower than those in force in the metal industry.  “Works’ councils got in touch with the IG-Metall and, in the spring, we opened talks with the management” tells Rober Fuss, negotiator in chief and local IG-Metall secretary in North Rhine-Westphalia.  Employees came up with a slogan, “Closing the gap,” referring to the difference between their salary and the wages defined in the collective agreement governing the metal sector.  To support their claims, they massively joined the IG-Metall.  Now, about 50% of them are affiliated with the union.  “This unionization rate is high in the IT industry” Fuss pointed out.
