Germany: Allianz insurer negotiates the last details of its reorganization plan with work’s council

The reorganization of the largest German insurer should begin soon. On January 22 nd 2007, management of Allianz Deutschland AG and its work's council concluded, in 1000 pages, a series of measures (Interessenausgleichregelungen), settling the questions related to the implementation of the restructuring plan. The latter provides for the shedding of approximately 5700 jobs by 2008 in Germany. (Ref. 070065)

Last November, Allianz management and the work’s council had agreed, after months of negotiations, on the broad outline of the reorganization plan, made public on June 22nd 2006 by the insurer (see story nº 06642). Announcing its intention to shed some 5700 positions in two years in spite of record earnings, the German insurance giant had triggered a huge wave of protests among its employees.
