Balda, direct subcontractor of BenQ, specialized in electronic components, announced on October 24th that it had to sale three of its four German plants and to cut 250 jobs in its remaining plant. The bankruptcy of the cell phone producer BenQ (ex-Siemens), means the loss of 1900 jobs out of 3000. The outside contractors are also affected and are starting to lay off. IG Metall says 6000 jobs are threatened. (Ref. 061071)
