Germany : BenQ’s bankruptcy affects its outside contractors

The bankruptcy of the cell phone producer BenQ (ex-Siemens), means the loss of 1900 jobs out of 3000. The outside contractors are also affected and are starting to lay off. IG Metall says 6000 jobs are threatened. (Ref. 061071)

Balda, direct subcontractor of BenQ, specialized in electronic components, announced on October 24th that it had to sale three of its four German plants and to cut 250 jobs in its remaining plant. In total, for Balda, the bankruptcy of BenQ means the shedding of 1000 jobs and 50 million euros of losses.
