Germany: employment agencies being creative in a bid to convince start-ups that they can help them recruit

For the past two years, employment agency advisors in Berlin, Hamburg, and in North Rhine-Westphalia have been going out on their own particular version of ‘safari’. In fact these advisors have taken buses to three digital companies within their own regions in a bid to learn more about and understand the various professions as well as the demand for skilled workers within this segment. Then when they return to the agencies in question they can competently and confidently advise candidates and colleagues. Launched by the ‘Tech in the City’ organization, this particular initiative was awarded the latest ‘2019 Innovative Network’ prize on 03 June in Berlin by the German Social Affairs and Employment Minister. The goal of this initiative is to freshen up the image employment agencies have of start-up companies, as well as dismantling the stereotypes both may still have as regards each other and be in a position to put forward suitable candidates.

This innovation award, which is presented every year during the ‘Innovation Day’ conference, recognizes networks being set up and comprising various regional actors (companies, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, schools, etc.). The goal is to attract and retain skilled workers within each region.
