Germany: lobbied by its members, the IG-Metall is calling for a 6.5-7 percent wage increase

6.5 percent increase, adjustment included.  “In the coming weeks, golden reports and record results are going to be released.  Employees are simply asking for a fair share of what was made possible by their work” declared the leader of the IG-Metall in southern Germany, Jörg Hoffmann, after publishing his district’s wage claims.  The Baden-Württemberg’s federation is thus calling for a 6.5 percent increase over 12 months.  On February 6, the union’s management will take a stand.  Then, on February 23, the Federal Committee on Collective Agreements will permanently determine the amount of the union’s claims.  This amount is contingent on several elements.  For the first time, claiming that the agreement signed in 2010 was particularly moderate because of the crisis, the union is adding a 1.6 percent ‘adjustment’ factor for 2011.  for 2012, it set a 2.2 percent sharing out quotient taking account of inflation level and productivity increase.  To these 3.8 percent are added an additional 1 percent for the first 2013 quarter (the negotiations will run between march 2012 and march 2013) as well as 1.7 percent representing a quotient for the division of profits, i.e. 6.5 percent minimum.
