Germany: reelected as Verdi’s leader, Frank Bsirske demands the introduction of statutory minimum wage of EUR 8.5 an hour

More women on the steering committee.  Verdi, which has set equal opportunities as one of its priorities, has shown the way during its Congress.  Of the 14 people appointed to the union’s steering committee, 9 are women now.  However, the union’s figurehead is still a man: for the fourth time in a row, Frank Bsirske, 59, the son of a nurse and an assembly worker at Volkswagen, was reelected as the union’s President, with 94.7% of the votes – a little more than four years ago.  Famous in Germany because of his assertive speeches against the excess of capitalism, this ‘mustache man’ gave two major speeches during the Congress – one on Verdi’s work and one on the union’s strategic course.
