Germany: the DGB wants a vast reform of the low-wages sector

During its annual press conference held on January 17th in Berlin, Michael Sommer, president of the German trade-union Confederation (DGB), asked the government for an in-depth reform of low wages and the introduction of a generalized legal minimum wage. Also, the German press reports that the projects of the ministry for Employment and Social Affairs, aimed at introducing minimum wages by sector, are getting more precise. (Ref. 070045)

The president of the DGB initially asked the government to extend to all the branches the law (Entsendegesetz), already into force since 1999 in the building sector and soon in that of industrial cleaning (see story nº 06816).
