Germany: the government wants to save a part of the “Volkswagen” law

Two months and a half after the Court of Justice of the European Communities condemned the Volkswagen law (see our article No. 070878), Brigitte Zypries (SPD,) German Federal Minister of Justice, presented, on January 16, 2008, the guidelines of a new VW law, which maintains the right of veto for employees and for the Land of Lower-Saxony. Her bill still needs to be ratified by the conservative party (CDU/CSU.) (Ref. 080049)

In accordance with the claims of Volkswagen’s EWC, the bill states, as the old version did, that the supervisory board must endorse decisions to build or move production sites with a two-thirds majority.
