Whereas the pilot negotiations between the IG Metall union and employers concerning the funding of grdual retirement beyond 2009 are at a standstill, the IG Metall presented, on July 9, 2008, a new "Generation Contract." It is a five-point plan which proposes a radical shake-up of the way pensions are funded, with the introduction of compulsory corporate pension.
