Germany: unions criticize the liberalization of the long-distance bus market on January 1, 2013

Starting on January 1, 2013, the German bus industry will be rejuvenated. On November 2, the Bundesrat (the Upper House representing the Lander) adopted an amendment to the Passenger Transport Act allowing domestic bus transport for all regular long-distance connections in Germany, starting next year. However, this Confederation of German Unions (DGB) is worried by this new law, dreading its impact on the environment as well as wage dumping measures. However, the DGB praised the second part of the new law, which transposes the European regulation on public passenger transport services by rail and by road (No. 1370/2007). (Ref. 120663)
