After a decree on December 11, 2007 at Nuremberg-Furth's regional court, seized by the services' union Ver.di, the regional variety store "Edeka Nordbayern-Sachsen-Thüringen" will, in the future, have to create a supervisory board with equal management and employees representatives. "The time when Edeka used to hide behind cooperative structures to go round joint-management rules, is finally over", rejoiced Uwe Erschens, in charge of Edeka's case for Verdi. (Ref. 071028)
“Edeka started as a small business. Today however, it has become one of the biggest German employers with more than 250.000 employees. Yet, the management did everything it could to prevent the establishment of equal supervisory board in the seven regional businesses it owns in Germany. Regarding joint-management, the company is still where it was in the 1960’s,” Uwe Erschens explained to e-europnews.
