The Department for Work and Pensions - DWP - proposed, on March 13, a compensation reform for asbestos victims. This proposition plans to broaden the field of people entitled to the compensation and to quicken the compensations granting procedures. (Ref. 070241)
Currently, the legislation in force (the 1979 Workers’ Compensation Act), only people who caught cancer because of exposure to asbestos at work are granted a compensation only, by single payment. The plan is broadening the field of people who can pretend to a State compensation, including :
