Great Britain: agency workers employed for less than three months are now entitled to sick leaves

From October 27, 2008 onwards, all agency workers will be entitled to sick pay, whatever the length of their contract and their type of recruitment (direct or indirect). Since 2002, this category of workers was the only one excluded from the legislation granting the right to sick pay. (Ref. 080592)

The government announced this amendment to the law in the beginning of July. The law on sick pay always excluded people with a contract of three months and less. In 2002, an amendment allowed permanent workers to be entitled to sick pay regardless of the length of their contract. Agency workers will be given the same right in the fall of 2008.
