Great Britain: Bulgarian and Romanian workers will only have access to seasonal jobs in the farming and food-processing sectors

The British government has just announced the entry into force of restrictions on immigration from Romania and Bulgaria, starting January 1st, 2007. On this day, these countries will integrate the European Union. Only 23 000 employees will be able to integrate the British labour market in 2007. (Ref 061058)

Immigration allowed only in farming sector and food-processing industry. Unskilled people will be allowed to work only in the farming sector and in the food-processing industry. Their number in these two sectors will be restricted to 19.750 a year, respectively 16.250 and 3.500. This figure reflects the current needs but will be reviewed every year.
