Great Britain: CJEC ruling on retirement pensions failure at Allied Steet and Wire satisfies both parties

The decision of the CJEC taken on last January 25th (see story n°070075), on the government's obligations regarding the guarantee of unpaid retirements pensions by bankrupt schemes, satisfied both sides : the representatives of the employees affected have hope again, while the Department for Work and Pensions, exempted to guarantee the entirety of the pensions due and unpaid, is relieved. Reaction of the plaintiffs. The secretary-general of the trade union Community, which accounts for 95% of ASW employees (company for which the bankruptcy lead to the failure of its company pension plan, see story n°070075), is delighted that the CJEC “clearly showed that the current measures are not in conformity with the law. It is what we always said. It is the result of the failures of several successive governments “. He now calls on the government to find a financial agreement to help ASW
