With the much awaited independent report on work commissioned by Theresa May’s government and led by Matthew Taylor expected on Tuesday 11 July (c.f. article No. 9950), food delivery firm Deliveroo has surprisingly called for UK law to change in order to provide its riders with better rights including sick leave, paid leave, pension and the minimum wage.
As part of its contribution to the Taylor report, Deliveroo has pledged its willingness to offer these benefits to its 15,000 riders, however it argues that changes in the law are necessary for this to occur. Unimpressed, trade unions argued that Deliveroo could have already improved the lot of these independent riders.
