Great Britain: enforcement of the law on the information and consultation of employees in undertakings with more than 50 employees

The Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004 completely came into force on April 6, 2008. Employees in undertakings with 50 employees or more can now make a request for information and consultation about issues regarding their job. (Ref. 080278)

Since April 2005, this regulation applied
to businesses with 150 employees and more, and then in April 2007 it was
extended to those with 100 employees and more. Since April 6, 2008, companies
with 50 employees and more are now concerned. If at least 10% of employees make
a request for I&C about issues regarding their job, the employer will have
to create a regular I&C system. Employers who do not respect this legislation
risk a £75.000 fine (approximately €94.000) to pay to the labor cou
