GMB union members at four JCB companies (construction machinery) have voted to begin a temporary period of short-time working to stave off compulsory redundancies amongst a number of their colleagues. The vote followed the company announcing it needed to cut 290 shop floor positions because of a rapid deterioration in world construction equipment markets. Voluntary redundancies and early retirement will also play a role in preventing compulsory redundancies.
