Great Britain: restructuring of the Remploy organization, specialized in the employment of handicapped people

Following a negative report on Remploy, the public organization specialized in the employment of handicapped people, the government decided to grant the organization an envelope of 555 million Pounds (812 million euros) over five years to conduct its complete reorganization and to reach financial balance. Remploy, an employer entirely subsidized by the Department of Work and Pensions, was created in 1945 to provide work to people wounded during the war. In 1952, it had 91 factories for this labour with limited capacities. Currently, Remploy employs 5 400 handicapped people in 83 factories and various service providers (gardening, handling, surveillance).
