On 07 February 2018 the UK government unveiled its official response the independent Taylor review that was published in July 2017. A whole raft of measures were announced to boost both the quality of jobs and working conditions in the country, and for the first time include new day-one rights with sick and holiday pay to be enforced for vulnerable workers, as well as a much-awaited consultation on employee status options.
The Prime Minister said, “We recognize the world of work is changing and we have to make sure we have the right structures in place to reflect those changes, enhancing the UK’s position as one of the best places in the world to do business.” Theresa May presented the ‘Good Work’ plan as one of the pillars of the government’s new industrial strategy that includes a myriad of landmark measures including: a list of day-one rights including holiday and sick pay entitlements and a new right to a pay
