The current provisions date to legislation from 2011 and weren’t really used due to inefficacy. On 08 August a decree was adopted that establishes a labor inspectorate platform (S.E.P.E.) in a bid to simplify the administrative procedures and so make recourse to mediation for individuals’ work-based disputes easier to access. Thus if the parties agree within the mediation framework, then disputes can be settled in twenty days without any litigation costs.
This mediation alternative has become more attractive again since workplace disputes have been increasing and industrial relations deteriorating in crisis and poverty riven Greece. The approach aims to enable individual workplace dispute resolution, by bringing the parties together towards a legally supported solution and in this way distinguishes itself from mediation and conciliation procedures that are employed for collective disputes.
