Holcim/Lafarge: an international union campaign so that the cement makers merger will result in both social as well as economic benefits

Two world leaders in the cement and buildings industry: Holcim and Lafarge will join forces to create a new group that will employ 130,000 with revenues of 35 billion euros. Faced with what will certainly be a global name in the building sector the international union federations: IndustriALL Global Union, Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI), and European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) have also joined forces to act. On January 15 they organized a world information day to request that the unions be more involved with the merger process and to secure commitments on social policies in the new group.
