Announced on May 1, 2013, the merger between the largest union confederations, MSZOSZ (national confederation of Hungarian unions), SZEF (Forum for union cooperation) and ASZSZ (Confederation of independent unions), was officially presented on December 6. This new confederation, called “Magyar Szakszervezeti Szövetseg” (MSZSZ/Hungarian union alliance) is now the largest in the country with 250,000 members. The government welcomed its creation and is happy to have a new bargaining partner. Meanwhile, the ESZT (confederation of professional unions) and the MOSZ (national federation of workers’ advice) announced that they were getting closer. A new union confederation, the MSZSZ. The MSZOSZ, the SZEF and the ASZSZ officially announced their merger on December 6. This new confederation gathers employees from the public and private sectors at the same time.
