The supreme labour jurisdiction in Ireland (the Labour Court) published its annual report 2006. It outlines the general trends of the labour litigation and takes a stock of other Court's activities, notably the extension of collective agreements. (Ref. 070677)
The number of cases deferred to the Court sensitively decreased in 2006 (1.364 cases) when compared to 2005 (1.392 cases), that is to say a 2% decrease.
Industrial relations cases. The majority of the cases submitted to the Court in 2006 concerned industrial relations: they represent 91% of the total number of litigations. In this category, almost half of the litigations (47%) concerned complaints for breaches of collective agreements: 606 complaints were thus introduced by trade unions in 2006,
