On 14 January 2015, the executives at the CGIL, Cisl, and Uil union confederations approved a project for a new industrial relations model called “A modern industrial relations system. Towards economic development based on innovation and high quality work.” Targeting participation in terms of governance and results as well as total coverage for all employees working in the same place, the three union confederations are calling for “structural change” in Italian industrial relations that centers round a stronger role for unions within businesses. The text will be sent to the employers’ bodies for negotiation.
Negotiations with employers are likely to prove difficult (c.f. article No. 9303) but the CGIL, Cisl, and Uil are enjoying renewed strength from their united position over this new single industrial relations model, which on 14 January was unanimously approved by the executive teams of the three union confederations together.
