Italy: Fiat signs separate agreement for its new national collective agreement

The agreement signed yesterday is “a historical turn for our company and its workers” rejoiced Sergio Marchionne, Managing Director of Fiat S.p.A. and CEO of Fiat Industrial.  Valid for one year, starting on January 1, 2012, the new collective agreement replaces the national metal collective agreement, which Fiat terminated in November (see our dispatch No.  110720) and extends the principles of the Pomigliano collective agreement (see our dispatch No.  110011) to all the Italian establishments of Fiat and Fiat Industrial (86,200 employees in total).  The day before the launch of the new Panda, on December 14 in the Campania plant, where the Fabbrica Italia plan started (see our dispatch No.  100480), Marchionne came to a full circle with his “revolution” of the Italian industrial relations system.  The agreement will be sent to the Unitary Trade Union Representation bodies (RSUs) for approval and presented to the employees during workers’ meetings by February.
