On 14 November, following more than three years of negotiations, the employers’ bodies, Federturismo Confindustria and Confindustria Alberghi, together with the trade union bodies, Filcams-Cgil, Fisascat-Cisl, and Uiltucs-Uil, signed a new collective agreement for Italy’s tourism industry, which will affect some 200,000 workers in the big hotel chains and tour-operators. The agreement, under consultation with the workers, will apply until 31 January 2018 and intends for an €88 wage rise.
Forty-two months after the previous NCA expired and following several strikes and mobilization initiatives, Italy’s tourism social partners finally secured an agreement. “In light of the very serious crisis underway in tourism,” as the employers’ organizations explained, the new text doesn’t include a one-off payment to workers but instead specifies salary adjustment over three stages. Employees in hotel chains, bars, restaurants, and seaside resorts will get a €48 pay rise in November 2016...
