The employer organisations Federmeccanica and Assistal have joined forces with three trade unions – Fiom-Cgil, Fim-Cisl and Uilm – to launch a digital platform called MetApprendo, with a view to aiding the implementation of the individual right to training provided for in the collective agreement for the engineering and metals sector. The digital platform will provide companies in the sector with a series of services to gauge training needs, build customised plans and provide online training. In the Italian world of industrial relations, this initiative is particularly innovative in nature.
The individual right to training, which was a major new feature of the 2016 collective agreement in Italy’s engineering and metals sector, has been faced with numerous obstacles (see article n°10927). As such the renewed agreement struck in February 2021 (see article n°12350) included a commitment to develop a national platform for ongoing training.
